Schefelker Park 10 acres Originally known as Kaplan Park, the site was only 1.8 acres in size and predominantly wooded land, but 8 additional acres of more diversified land was acquired and the park was renamed. Located in the northwestern sector of the city off of Furseth Road, this park is currently being developed. This park has a nice stand of Oak trees and an open, flat area available for recreational use. A "Friends of Schefelker Park" group was formed in 1986, that consisted of interested neighbors of the park. Through this group a site plan and a master plan was developed. It was their hope that this park be a more passive, nontraditional, nature-oriented park. The park has a prairie restoration project in the middle of the park that involve seasonal burning and seed collection; a trail system; small parking lot; some playground equipment and some plantings of trees and shrubs, a paved trail and a backstop. |
